The Boomer is designed for sudden ambushes. Although he has very low health and is very loud when idle, the effects of a successful ambush on the survivors can be very deadly. The boomer pukes on survivors, which attracts a small horde that attacks the target survivor. Boomer can vomit onto several survivors at once, resulting in several hordes sent for each survivor specifically. If shot, the boomer explodes, stumbling everyone in the immediate vicinity and covering nearby clean survivors with puke. However, if the survivors can put an accurate headshot right into the boomers' forehead, he does not explode. (Boomer not shown in the ascii)

Btw, count this as added into description:

If in close range, the survivors can melee the boomer so that he stumbles back for 4 seconds, giving
the survivors enough time to back away before 'booming' the boomer.

If the boomer takes 50 falling damage (if less he does not take any at all), the boomer pops.
Infected players can use this tactic to ambush survivors from high rooftops (AKA Boomer Bomb).
